Sevilla {Part One}

I decided that I wanted a life of adventure. I moved to London last year, made many new friends, visited places I've never been and learned a little bit more about myself each day.
I thought I would do a little more exploring, branch out a bit more. And one night while I was wide awake at 3 a.m., I found a ridiculously cheap flight to Sevilla, Spain and a few weeks later I was on the plan for my first solo adventure.

As I landed in Spain, walked around, got lost, spoke Spanish, and ate delicious food I relaxed into myself my surroundings and explored....

19 January 2012

I am in Sevilla, Spain drinking delicious sangria at Bar Patanchon and waiting for my calamari to arrive. I'm probably drinking my Sangria too fast but I can't help it. It's amazing. I was pretty nervous all night before I left London. I kept asking myself, 'What are you doing?'

But you know this is what I want to do as nervous as it makes me, as freaked out as I get this is exactly what I'm supposed to be doing right now. And so far I've been alright. I've navigated my way to the bus stop to take me to the city center, I've stopped and asked people for directions {all in Spanish nonetheless} and I've wandered around El Barrio Santa Cruz, checked into my hostel, and made my way to this cafe where I've just been served the best calamari of my life. No really, it's amazing. Perfectly seasoned with a bit of fresh lemon juice. perfecto.

It's worth mentioning that it only took me 2 hours to get to Spain from London. There's something to this living in Europe thing. And on my flight, there were so many people who were going on holiday. Backpackers young and old. The older couples surprised me a bit but then again I guess a sense of adventure never really fades in some of us.

The city of Sevilla is beautiful. There are orange trees everywhere and I'm determined to taste an orange. I just have to figure out how to get one. Maybe I'll have to stand on my tippy toes...

Cathedral Seville
I always enjoy sitting in a pew in a cathedral and reflecting. This one in particular isn't my favorite to be honest but it is the largest gothic Cathedral in the world. It feels drafty in here and somehow a bit vacant. But, as I sit here with my moleskin in my hand I can't help but reflect on how spiritual life is beautiful and should be celebrated. I climbed to the top of the Tower Giralda and the views of the city were beautiful. From the top of  I got a sense of the Spanish lifestyle. The streets looked quiet, church bells rang in the distance and rooftop pools glistened in the sun.  I felt relaxed and warm.

Wandering around...
This lady came up to me and read my palm. I understood most of what she was saying despite the fact that she spoke very quickly in Spanish. She kept pausing to ask me if I understood what she was saying and I kept nodding my head emphatically each time. She said that I had a very long life and that I wouldn't have any troubles in Spain while on holiday. She moved to my love line and said that I had big heart {corazón} and that I longed for love in my life. I don't know what came over me but at that moment tears pricked my eyes. I wondered if to her I seemed lonely.

And to be honest, I felt lonesome and I think she saw it in my eyes. She patted my hands gently, told me not to worry that it would come and then blessed me, giving me a piece of plant and instructing me to burn it in three days for good luck. I don't believe in luck, but I kept the leaves and pressed them in between the pages of my moleskin somehow thinking, hoping even, that they would bring me love...

perfectly fresh

{photo via:pinterest}
(apologies for the pixelated picture, but I just had to use it.)

Since we're all friends here, I'm going to let you have a peek into my personal journal. Here are my thoughts on the new year...

So many things have happened in a year and I cannot believe I find myself looking at another year.

Another perfectly fresh start.

What I truly want out of this year is to not live in fear. I want to live in each day, travel, learn more and more about myself and develop my passion more than I ever have before. I want to lay aside the burdens that get me down, the desires of my heart that have yet to unfold and boldly live knowing that God holds my precious little world in His more than capable and loving hands.

And that is all friends. No resolutions to lose weight or exercise more, or go on more dates. I just want to live this year to its' absolute fullest and grand potential.

Do you have any thoughts or goals for the new year? Care to share?

London, Paris, New York

It just occurred to me, whilst looking at this image, that I have visited, photographed, experienced and breathed in all of these places. And now I am so fortunate to even live in one of these amazing cities. This makes me joyful beyond measure. My life is a massive blessing.

Plane Ticket Tuesday

 {photo via:instagram}

Guess, what I'm doing today friends? I'm buying the plane ticket. Yes, THE ticket to London. I don't know why I'm so nervous but I'm kinda sweating. {Yes, actual sweat is forming on my brow.} It could be the amount of cash that I'll be putting down but it seems bigger than money at this point.

Buying this ticket is the next step of so many steps I've already taken, but somehow seems more  monumental. There's  no turning back now. And really when it boils down to it, I don't want to turn back anyway....

Wanted: Lo & Sons + O.G. Bag

This bag will change my life. On a busy day, I normally leave my house with my purse, a laptop bag, my lunch bag and my Starbucks travel mug. Any outfit that I have on suddenly doesn't look so cute when it's weighed down by three large bags and me wobbling on my heels trying to get out of the door as quickly as possible. But, this bag will change everything.  It's the O.G. Bag from San Francisco family based company Lo & Sons.

Durable yet light weight, this bag has a separate pocket for a laptop, and under carry section for a pair of shoes, perfect for commuters, and two easy access zippered front pockets to carry all your essentials.
I am totally coveting this bag.

Oh. Yes. I can see myself in London jetting off to class, stopping by the library to get some work done and then hitting up the gym all with this beautiful bag in hand. Talk about the perfect carry-all. To see a super cute video of the bags functionality, click here.

St. Thomas is home

Oh, happy Friday dear friends.

So glad the weekend is upon us yet again. With all of the warm weather we've been having these past few weeks, I have been wanting to reconnect with my island heritage. On this Friday in particular, St. Thomas is calling my name.
 {photo via:here}

My dad's wonderful family is from this beautiful place. With sea blue calm waves that lap against the shore,  terra cotta colored roofs that dot the hills, centuries of family history, fish frys, mangoes, and steel drums I'm wanting to click my heels and find myself lying on the beach.

What I wouldn't do to be back home. Enjoy your weekend lovelies.

What a weekend!

Happy Monday dear friends. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. I headed to the Cherry Blossom Festival with friends and oh my goodness, I have never seen anything like it. The soft pink and white blooms seemed magical and most everyone seemed to be in a good mood.

 {photo via:pinterest}

.... Most Everyone. The flip side was that, we were hearded into the Metro, and had to deal with several parents who were more than annoyed that they had their kids with them on such crowded public transportation. But then again, I'm not sure what they expected?  The weather was a bit iffy over the weekend too. It was pretty rainy and cold on Saturday and at one point it even started hailing. I was walking along with two of my friends, when they said, "Hey it's hailing!" I wasn't convinced as I thought it was just the buds from the Cherry Blossoms. And then wham! two seconds later I'm all, "It's HAILING! RUN FOR COVER!!"

At some points our weekend seemed like a comedy of errors, and I was definitely tired when I got home. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my visit and would like to do it again soon. Next time though, I think I'll pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on the mall and have a clear plan as to what we would like to see and do.  So, here's to planning more trips in the future.

Paris...Je t'aime

{photo via:That Kind of Woman}

I am yearning for all things French, right now. Between reading Julia Child's My Life in France, listening to my Berltiz French on the Go CD's and listening to Edith Piaf and now Les Chauds Lapins, {Thanks to Matchbook Mag, for the intro to new music!} I'm craving an escape to Paris.

{le sigh} Hopefully while in London I'll be able to travel to Paris at least twice to wander the streets of the classiest city I know. {Minus the dog poo of course.} All, I need is a striped shirt, some over-sized sunnies, a fresh baguette avec une bonne bouteille vin. Parfait, no?!

The cherry blossoms are calling my name

Happy Hump Day everyone {I've always thought that sounded funny.} Anyway, I'm looking forward to the weekend with much anticipation as I'm headed to DC with girlfriends to enjoy the Cherry Blossom Festival. This has been a long time coming. Two years ago I went up for the fesitval a little late in the season and the cherry blossoms were gone and it was cold and rainy. But! this year the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and I'm hoping that the weather holds out and it's warm.

 {photo via:Rockstar Diaries}

So, besides enjoying the cherry blossoms, I'm looking for something new to do. A restaurant I've never eaten at, a vintage store I've never shopped in, or a Historic site I have yet to visit. So, dear friends, send me your suggestions of "must do" D.C. and I will do my best to try them all. Thanks in advance! Bisou, Bisou.
XO,
London Lisa
